Matt O'Brien
Matt O'Brien is a long-time competitor in NEMA midget racing, carrying on a deep family tradition that began in the 1950s with his grandfather. Matt has been racing midgets since 1990 and has earned various accolades, including the 2022 Evans/Thrall Memorial Award for Top Owner/Driver. He currently drives the #16 car for the family team, Jim O'Brien & Sons Engineering, and shares his passion for racing with his son Benjamin.

Not just fast, NEMA Fast
The Northeastern Midget Association is the oldest pavement midget racing club in the Nation. Midgets are four- cylinder, pure-bred open wheel racecars. If it is bolted into a midget, it serves one of only two purposes: safety or speed. The mighty midgets of NEMA are that and more.
